The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, Inc. and the Veterans Museum and Parks Committee, Inc. will conduct a dedication ceremony of the World War I War Memorial to honor Hillsborough County citizens who gave the ultimate sacrifice in fighting the “War to End All Wars”.
Naval JROTC Cadets from A. P. Leto High School will present the Colors. The guest speaker is Dr. Graydon A. Tunstall, Department of History, University of South Florida who teaches classes on military history with an emphasis on the World Wars. Veterans of Foreign Wars, Riverview Post 8108 will provide Poppies to attendees. The Red Field Poppy is recognized as a symbol of remembrance on the battlefields of Belgium, France and Gallipoli synonymous with great loss of life in the spring of 1915 during World War I. The “poppy” became the emblem for “keeping the faith with all who died”.
