    Event Description:
    The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County invites the community to a Field of Honor Ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park and Rear Admiral LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum, 3602 U.S. Highway 301 N. in Tampa.
     
    The Jan. 12 Field of Honor event is the first quarterly remembrance of 2019 and will pay tribute to heroes who lost their lives during the final months of 2018. Fallen members of law enforcement will also be honored, including two Miami-area police officers.
     
    Names of the following U.S. military servicemen and servicewomen who made the supreme sacrifice will be read as American flags are placed at the Field of Honor circle:
     
    • One U. S. Air force and seven U.S. Army casualties in Operation Inherent Resolve (Iraq, Syria and Yemen)
    • One U. S. Army and one U.S. Navy casualty in Operation Freedom’s Sentinel (Afghanistan)
    • Six Marine casualties suffered during a training exercise off the coast of Japan
    • 48 previously unidentified remains of U.S. military members lost during World War II and Korea (formerly listed as missing-in-action, now identified through advancements in mitochondrial DNA research).
     
     
    The Field of Honor Ceremony will feature the Sickles High School JROTC color guard, vocalist Dawn Riley of Strawberry Ridge High School JROTC, music courtesy of VFW Post 8108, and a traditional rifle salute and taps by the Sgt. Walter P. Ryan Detachment 1226 Marine Corps League of Riverview.
