As part of National Consumer Protection Week, Hillsborough County Consumer & Veterans Services wants to help residents avoid identity theft by safely destroying dated, sensitive information at the annual Shred Fest 2021.
The event will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. March 6 at Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N. in Tampa.
Residents can drop off their old cellphones, personal computers, laptops, tablets, and hard drives to be securely destroyed by an industry-approved and certified recycler.
Document shredding remains an option at Shred Fest 2021. Documents that will be accepted for shredding include:
Document shredding will be limited to three copy paper-size boxes or kitchen-size trash bag containers per vehicle. White or clear bags are preferred over black trash bags.
All services are free, and first come, first served. No commercial shredding will be permitted.
The annual event offers free education and services as part of National Consumer Protection Week, which is held from Feb. 28 through March 6.
Shred Fest 2021 is a drive-thru opportunity with on-site assistance provided under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention health and safety guidelines. Attendees are encouraged to remain in their vehicles, and consumer protection experts will be available to answer questions.
