HCA Florida Brandon Hospital’s Althea McLeish-Whyte named to National “75 Black Healthcare Leaders to Know” list
Becker’s Hospital Review has named Althea McLeish-Whyte, MSN, RN, emergency services manager at HCA Florida Plant City Emergency, to its 2022 "75 Black Healthcare Leaders to Know" list.

Nominated by her director for her skills and dedication to her team, the national list highlights black leaders and executives for the work they do in communities across America. Becker’s notes that these leaders bring a valuable perspective to building strong organizations, community partnerships, and clinical programs by promoting equity and inclusion in the healthcare industry - as they elevate the next generation of healthcare leaders.

McLeish-Whyte describes herself as a servant and transformational leader who enjoys encouraging, motivating and inspiring others to become their best and harness their full potential.

“Althea serves as an exceptional leader and mentor to those around her and represents our care standards every day,” said Tripp Owings, chief executive officer at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. “Congratulations to Althea on this well-earned recognition.”

McLeish-Whyte joined the HCA Healthcare family in May 2017 as a staff nurse on the medical/surgical floor at HCA Osceola Regional. In April 2018, she was promoted to a clinical nurse coordinator (CNC) position in orthopedics. However, her real passion was to be in an emergency room setting. In December 2018, McLeish-Whyte began a new role in the emergency room at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital as a staff nurse. During her time in this position, she learned about freestanding emergency rooms and volunteered to cover a shift at HCA Florida Plant City Emergency. She enjoyed that experience so much that she decided to transfer to the facility as a CNC in June of 2019 and was then promoted manager in March 2020.

Leadership is not the only thing that drives McLeish-Whyte as she also has a passion for learning. Her impressive education history began with a Registered Nurse diploma while living in Jamaica. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 2014. McLeish-Whyte is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice with an anticipated graduation date in 2023.
