Honors Riverview’s Margy Watkins
Members of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) and community friends gathered to honor and celebrate the life of Ms. Margy Watkins on Monday, April 8th, the one year anniversary of her passing. This celebration of life took place down by the river at the Showmen’s Club. Attendees dressed in red, her favorite color, to pay tribute to this Ambassador of the GRCC and the Riverview community. The Presentation of Colors was led by Sgt. Walter P. Ryan Marine Corps League, Detachment 1226.
During the Celebration, dear friends of Ms. Margy gave heartfelt testimonies and relayed stories of her extensive volunteerism within the area and various veteran groups. Speaking in her memory were GRCC Board Emeritus, Jim Johnson, Past GRCC Director, Connie Lesko and Friend, Jeanne Bush of Serenity Meadows Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Some of her favorite songs were played throughout the ceremony denoting her special character and heart, “My Way” and “It is Well with My Soul” were among them.
Bill Andrew, Honorary Mayor of Riverview delivered a proclamation in Memory of Ms. Margy Watkins and noted to all to remember this special day of Honor and to proclaim April 8, 2019 to be Margy Watkins Day. Established in her honor in 2006, the Margy Watkins Volunteer of the Year Award winners, were recognized and a beer toast was presented to Ms. Margy by the group. At 6:10pm, the time of her passing, guests released red carnations to honor Ms. Margy Watkins’ love, work and faithfulness to the Riverview Community and took comfort knowing that she would live in their hearts and minds as one of Riverview’s Finest Citizens!
