Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce Celebrates
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Mary and Martha House’s Laurie’s Magnolia House
On Thursday, April 21, 2022, Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) Investors joined together in Ruskin with Mary and Martha House, their staff, friends, and family, to celebrate a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in honor of their shelter building’s new name – “Laurie’s Magnolia House”. The house is named in honor of the late Laurie Herring, former Executive Director at Mary and Martha House. Laurie Herring will be remembered as having a positive impact on everyone she had contact with while being both an advocate and a friend.
A private, non-profit, tax exempt corporation primarily dependent on private contributions, Mary & Martha House is run by a Board of Directors comprised of local Hillsborough County residents who donate their time and provide direction to oversee the budget and ensure that the needs of the clients are met. Founded in 1982, Mary & Martha House has been helping women and families for 35+ years to escape domestic violence and homelessness. They are continuing this path of assistance in 2022 by providing individualized case management for each woman they serve. Each client’s unique personal barriers are identified and varies ways reviewed to overcome them.
At the Ribbon Cutting Celebration, there was a Proclamation delivered by the GRCC 2022 Chair of the Board, Michael Broussard of The Flying Locksmiths. He recognized April 21, 2022, to be Mary and Martha House’s Laurie’s Magnolia House Day, and asked attendees to duly note the occasion by remembering that “with Mary and Martha House, abused and homeless women can reclaim life with strength, honor, and dignity!”
